New members of the Shop Board are needed as some long serving members are retiring. For a Shop Board Nomination Form click here.

Are you good with numbers? Do you like technology?

As the festivities recede maybe thoughts have turned to New Year resolutions?

Would you like to help us to run the shop?

The board is looking for someone to help us with the financial side of keeping our shop thriving. After many years David Cheshire will be standing down as Treasurer at the AGM in the summer. Having been involved pretty much since the inception. David has played a key role in making the shop as successful and well run as it is today.. Much has, inevitably, changed in that time and the role has grown to encompass many more aspects as well as a lot more trade. The Board knows it will not be lucky enough to find another David.

So it has decided to split the role into three parts.

One role will be to act as treasurer, one as bookkeeper and one to help manage and troubleshoot the various systems that the shop uses, like the EPOS system.

Existing board members will cover the bookkeeping role and some of the compliance & system troubleshooting. So we are mainly looking for someone to act as Treasurer and
someone to become familiar with the systems. All of these roles, and what’s involved, are well established now and we will provide full training and mentoring.

Maybe worth saying too that although we take our responsibilities very seriously and are proud of the standards we adhere to we are a small, friendly board and not at all 'corporate'

If you, or someone you know, might be interested in helping out with any of these roles do please get in touch or have a chat with David or any other board member to find out more.

We would love to welcome you, or someone you know, on to the board.

A Bumper Christmas.

December was a very good month for turnover in the shop so huge thanks to everyone who did some, or maybe even most, of their Christmas shopping with us.

Just drop and go …….

An increasing number of us, it seems, are now sending parcels on a regular basis. Some of you are opting to have these parcels collected from home by Royal Mail which carries a
charge per parcel.

However if you send parcels and other mail items through the Post Office Drop & Go service you not only help support your local shop you also pay no extra charge. You simply drop off your letters and parcels with us in the shop and leave, there is no queuing at the counter or waiting for scanning, weighing or labelling etc. We’ll process your items the same day if they arrive before 12:00, and then charge your prepaid account, which you can manage online.

Set up your account for free and start using it right away.

Go to: https://www.postoffice.co.uk/dropandgo

Remember you can drop items off in the shop at anytime - but just be aware the PO counter is only open to actually process your parcels between 09:00-12:00. So if you drop
after 12 we will process them for collection once the PO reopens.

Yarpole Community Shop gives £8,981.58 for local projects at the AGM.

Yarpole Community Shop Shareholders voted to fund all the projects which submitted applications for funding totalling nearly £9,000. This is a magnificent gesture from the Shop and emphasises its importance to the local community in returning profit back into the community. The Shop has given money each year, with the exception of last year due to Covid 19, to local projects ranging from money for the Church, the Gallery Café, the Parish Hall, the Dog Agility Group, the Youth Club, The Birchpoles singing group. Many of the new gates in the Parish, replacing old styles, have been funded by the Shop as well as the strimmer used by the footpaths team. Over the 8 years that the Shop has used its surplus funds in this way more than £20,000 has been distributed to the Community. This is a magnificent achievement for our Community Shop.

It is only possible if the Shop makes a profit and that is dependent on it being used by the community. Clearly Covid has provided an exceptional year but it was possible to source everything one needed from the Shop without leaving the Parish. The use of the Shop has dropped off since the easing of restrictions which will mean that the profit for next year may be lower and the possibility of such generous funding will be reduced. The Shop needs everyone in the community to support it on a regular basis.

Remember Waitrose or Aldi will not be giving the Parish any grant money next year!

The church, the Gallery Café and Yarpole Community Shop - the beating heart of our community.
